I recently went on an Aly Martinez reading binge. I took down the entire Wrecked and Ruined series like a boss. They consumed me. I breathed, dreamed, and lived these books. Right in the middle of my reading spree, I had the opportunity to MEET Aly at Wicked Book Weekend in Fort Lauderdale…and she is just as awesome as I dreamed she would be. It made my reading experience that much more fabulous.

Fighting Silence is the first book in a spin off series called On the Ropes. This can be read as a standalone, but if you have read the Wrecked and Ruined series, you will see some familiar faces.

About the book…

Till Page grew up with nothing, no money, horrible parents, you name it, he didn’t have it. But at the age of thirteen, he finds something…meets someone who becomes HIS the moment he lays eyes on her.

Eliza Reynolds also grew up with very little, including parents who cared nothing for her. She found her sanctity in a condemned apartment. A place that allowed her to draw, dream, and escape. And her world changed irrevocably the day that Till Page came through the window also seeking an escape.

Till and Eliza build a very unique relationship within the walls of their home away from home. A fantasy. A place where reality didn’t filter in. They relied on each other, because they are all each other had.

Till is not only fighting to make something of himself, but also battling the impending sentence of gradual hearing loss. His career, his hearing, his woman, his family, his life….he’s fighting for all of them. And his fantasy can’t last forever… Or can it?

 

My thoughts…

Wow! I’m officially an Aly Addict. I was simply blown away. This book made me feel so much! Till…actually all of the Page boys …stole my heart. The heartache they endured. The life they fought their way through. All of it making them the strong fighters they became. And Eliza, she was a brilliant female lead. All of these characters were perfectly imperfect. They struggled. Life didn’t go their way, but THEY OVERCAME. And Aly gave us a front row seat on their journey.

Throughout this book, I ran the gamut of emotions. I cried, I felt sick, I hurt…but I also loved, cheered, and swooned. There was suspense, my heart was RACING during a few scenes… and several angsty moments, but none that were unnecessary. Till and Eliza also had a habit of using humor to make things light, so I caught myself laughing out loud a LOT.

And man, oh man, can Aly write some DELICIOUSLY HOT sex…ho.lee.shit. The best part about the erotic elements of her book, they were REAL. There was no come on command or insta-orgasms… Don’t get me wrong, I love shit hot sex scenes with these components, but it didn’t fit with these characters and I totally appreciated her style for this book. 

“I want it all,” he whispered, licking his lips before continuing. “Every single first you have to give, I want it.”… While holding his eyes, I reached back and unsnapped my bra, letting it fall down my arms. “Then they’re all yours,” I promised.

Overall, this was a perfect read for me. I LOVED it. Sweet and real. I fell hard for Till and Eliza’s story…I’m certain that you will too.

“Eliza, I have absolutely no idea what I did to make you fall in love with me. But I can honestly say, no matter what happens from this point on, it will always be my greatest accomplishment in this life. You’re incredible, and the fact that someone like you fell for a poor kid in dirty jeans who was scared to walk through doors proves it.”

 

Rating: 5 stars for storyline 4.5 stars for heat

    I really like that this book can be read as a standalone without having to read the other books in the series. I do however look forward to reading others in the series.
