Very hot m/m. These two can stand alone together. You don’t have to read the prequel but it makes it better.

Though I’m not really an m/m reader, I loved Lauren’s last one, A Guy Walks Into My Bar, so I figured I’d grab The Best Men as well. When I was about ⅓ through the book, I realized there was a FREE prequel called Super Hot Wingman, and it’s definitely worth reading first because it shows how our main characters meet.

Mark is a buttoned-up divorced, single dad bank trader whose sister, Hannah, just announced her pregnancy and wedding to Flip. Mark is worried his sister is marrying too quickly and his attitude shows.

“Nothing except a time machine will erase the drunk texts I fired off last night somewhere between midnight and regret o’clock.”

Asher is Flip’s best man. He is an ex-professional footballer (soccer to us Americans) who is now a jet-setting openly gay professional photographer. As co-best-men, Asher and Mark are sent to go get the whole destination wedding set up quickly in Miami. The two are complete opposites, so the banter is fun.

They are both fighting growing feelings for each other, but Mark is bisexual, though he’s never actually been with a guy, and Asher thinks he’s straight so he has no chance.

“Or maybe he’s checking out my ass. Or my abs.
That can’t be it.
But wouldn’t it be fun if it were true?”

I enjoyed the buildup. But once they got together, there was a lot of fucking and not that much else. I usually love a light book without a lot of angst, but this turned out to be a pretty long book for what was basically a short story. It felt like there was a lot of unnecessary filler that I don’t usually notice in Lauren’s books.

Still, I enjoyed the read very much and recommend it if you like a light and fluffy m/m read.

Likes:

I definitely laughed out loud a few times.
It was a happy-making, feel-good book.
Witty banter.
Some real heart-tugging moments that never tugged too hard.
I loved the build-up until they finally did it.
Flowed well and I was completely unable to tell how the writing was split.

Dislikes:

It was too long for the story and seemed to have a little too much fluff added.
Hannah got on my nerves.

The Narration:

Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan were great, though I must admit, they’re similar enough that I confused whose head we were in a lot. I find it’s way easier when an m/m book either has different accents or is a single POV.

The Down & Dirty:

Definitely grab Super Hot Wingman and then The Best Men if you are looking for a super-hot, low-angst, feel-good m/m novel. I think it was easily 1-2 hours too long for me because there was a little too much fluff and sex, but I still enjoyed the story and the characters very much and will continue this series when the next comes out.
